Trigger warnings: kidnapping, violence
AN IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSTOR is the seventh book in the Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn. The series follows a butterfly hunter and her natural historian friend as they help to solve mysteries in 1880’s London.
I started reading this series near the end of last year and became obsessed! I haven’t really talked about it here much but I love historical fiction thrillers. I think they’re super entertaining and I’m always easily duped by the mystery. This series is top notch with the mysteries as well the characters. However, this book wasn’t as exciting as I hoped it would be. There was a lot more emotional turmoil for the main character in this book than I expected. I wasn’t as enamored with the new characters introduced and the ending was both a sad and filled with anticipation. However, I think the mystery was really engaging and I liked the commentary on the political situations of the time. But I definitely recommend if you’re interested in the genre!

Jesus fuck, Veronica, talk to your partner! What even is this book? Are we certain the main character hasn't been replaced by a replicant?
