Not my usual style, but incredible compelling and gripping for all 600 pages. Well-written and mature authorship in terms of leaving parts unresolved. Stayed up late many nights just to keep reading.

The interactions between the narrator and his partner were fun for the middle part of the book. I didn't particularly like the narrator. I can't decide if I liked how only one of the two cases found resolution. Also, sorry dude, I don't think the thing/person you said tricked me too actually did. I mean, meh. I did like the little glimpse into what happed to the other 2 detectives after the case ended.

Absolutely loved the author’s style of writing. The characters are wonderfully developed (flaws and all) and I enjoyed their personal journeys even more than the unfolding of the murder case. One case is unresolved in the end which seems to bother others based on their reviews, but not me; I would rather have an unresolved ending than an ending that’s rushed with closure that’s too convenient to be believable. It’s a messy, complicated story that’s beautifully written, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I was fully pulled into the mystery and found the way we're given details to be really compelling. Very interesting choice for narrator, and I did not see that resolution coming. At times, it seemed the book was rather long. It didn't really drag, but it felt like there was a lot more book left when we'd already had a lot of story already told, but the storylines came together. I think I'll be reading the next one.

4 Stars

This story was a great psychological thriller. At times you wonder, "what is going on? why isn't this moving along? where is the neat tidy bow?" *wags finger*... not so fast. This story is poisonous and filthy, and is circling the drain. By the time you get to the last book; all out of breath and tense; does it all make sense. You have been mislead, my friend. I had no clue who the killer was. Had no idea who to trust and could think of no reason I felt so tired.

This book has a long, slow, and almost tedious build-up....but it works. In the end it works. And then it ends; and not how you imagined. I feel completely drained.
