A deftly written mystery novel following a man who experienced the disappearance of his two best friends as a child. I found the mystery fairly obvious, but greatly enjoyed the character development. I especially liked the complicated dynamic between the two main characters. The ending was emotionally complicated, but solidly written.

I’m done!! I’m finally done with this book!! chapters 1-3 and 20-25 were good!! the other 17 were SO BORING. this man went on and on about nothing and we don’t even find out what happened to his friends (which is the entire reason why I wanted to read this book) the narrator was so unlikeable and ruined every relationship (platonic or romantic) that he ever had. the writing was fancy but so incredibly dry at the same time that I couldn’t stand reading it so I used an audiobook. by god was it predictable, there was even a quote that said “she fooled you too” NO SHE DIDN’T you can literally look at my progress history on this book and see that I predicted it like halfway through. do NOT read this book, I’m only giving it a decent rating because of the first and last couple chapters being semi-interesting. the last page was also a little sad though. please spare yourself 400+ pages of torture.

So good. So, so good.

Way too long. Unnecessary plot lines. Truly not a mystery, I think it was obvious who it was. Main character completely unlikable.

I devoured this book. The story was so well crafted and the characters were flawed but lovable. I was trying to solve both cases the entire book right along with the detectives.

Ouch. But why did he treat Cassy that way though.

This was so much fun!

I’ve a few problems with how it ended and Rob really let me down but I’m hooked and have to read the next one ASAP!

The book jacket says, "even the best sleuths won't be able to guess the ending." I sort of did. I have to say it did take me almost to the end, though. This was a very fast read. I had a hard time stopping. I do like a good mystery.
