Off to a super creepy start!
I think this is a terrific book. Two mysteries but only one gets solved. Leaves you with lots to think about. I'd like to hope that the author gives some answers in a future book. I look forward to reading more from her!

I have complicated feelings about this book. It started out strong, but man would this book have benefited from an edit. The book really slogs down in the middle and really doesn't pick up again until closer to the end. It really isn't helped by the fact that Ryan is an unlikeable protagonist. He spends half his time drowning in his past and the other half treating his partner and friend badly, plus he acts very incompetently at times. It was an interesting story, and I'm not as infuriated about the ending as others. I felt the ending tied things up for the most part and was satisfactory. The one thing I do have to say is that it seems a bit cheap was the connection between his story and the current story, for spoilery reasons I won't get into.
I did like Cassie though, and I may just read the next one to see if with a likable protagonist I enjoy French's writing more. I think her writing leans more heavily into detailed character study, and I'm more of a tight plot and narrative driven kind of girl.

I highly recommend In the Woods Tana French. Tana French writes and excellent character narratives intertwined elegantly with a compelling plot. This story focuses on main characters Rob and Cassie. I read this in five hours and would definitely pick it up for a reread.
