I had expectations on how this would play out, was proven wrong, was put into a new ride, and now I’m left alone and confused in the aftermath.

Fundamentally, Prince Huai is a guy who just wants to chill and live life on his own terms and is a romantic at heart who wants to be with someone to share it with, yet because of his position on the court he’s always placed in situations where he has to play into assumptions he was born into. I honestly was rooting for him to finally find a way out of it all, then the goddamn twist happens and I have more questions than answers.

Some people say there is a love triangle- there isn’t. For me at least there is a clear cut show of who is his love interest, but there’s gotta be some drama to drive the characters along. If anything I should’ve taken heed that they literally don’t get together until the last chapter- and even then it not that clear cut.

I need to find someone else’s meta-analysis on this cause I don’t know what to make of this book 😭

An overall enjoyable read with a cutely pathetic MC. There are some sad moments, but I feel like Chengjun's narration keeps things from being a downer. It's an immensely readable book, and the translation certainly helps. Towards the end, I do feel as if some plot details became a bit messy and confusing, but it wasn't enough to seriously ding the book. The extras were... a bit strange and while I wasn't a big fan of most of them, the ending that
focused on Jing Su and Jing Yuan's relationship  made up for what I disliked.
I have seen some reviews claim that the relationship
between the true love interest feels less fleshed out than Jing Weiyi's relationships with his nephews
and I have to agree, but in the end I think maybe it was for the best as the title is The Imperial Uncle, so it tracks that the nephews would be most important.
