Purity

This book had an interesting hold on me given the fact that I left a high intensity religion. It’s not exceptionally well written. My friend and I both agreed it kind of felt like a high school student creative writing assignment. Purity culture really messes with your head. I left my childhood religion 10 plus years ago and there is so much that STILL messes with my head.
I love that she was so honest. I love that it showed how family can be accepting (her sister) and so disappointed and appalled (her father). I’m torn on how I feel about her friend Mari. She was crazy supportive but also weirdly felt like she wanted her to already be at her place of mind with religion and pushed her to be careless.
It’s funny. I remember my first everything that was “sinful” after leaving and I can relate to this book.

3.5⭐️ Sweet but spicy short read!
Livvy’s faith has evolved and she has realized that the indoctrinated purity culture of her religion is toxic. She has a summer list full of “impurities” to accomplish, with the kicker being losing her virginity by the end of the summer. She tells her plan to her best friend Cole and even wants his help, but will their friendship survive it?
I thought this book was sweet and we see a side of a woman who’s 21 and still treated like a child bc she needs to remain “pure.” It was interesting hearing her perspective on why she’s still a part of her faith but breaking away from the purity culture aspect.
I thought this was flirty, fun, even though it’s more innocent it definitely has some spice and slight kink. Cole helped bring her out of her shell and she didn’t feel judged.

**warning: divorce, purity culture trauma**

I saw the author talking about the book on my FYP and I was discovered the book that way.

Overall, I like the premise/general idea of the book. However I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing, and I was frustrated from the lack of depth that the characters had. It felt very rushed and forced, and it felt like I was reading something from Wattpad.

I definitely enjoyed the book for the most part and got through it pretty quick , but I can’t see myself picking it up again.
