I loved this book. That being said, it’s not for everyone.

This is one of those books where I highly suggest reading the overview before reading it, because it matches the story perfectly.

This book is about toxic purity culture. The main female character has been highly sheltered and probably stifled in many parts of her life (I’ll come back to this later), because of this she decides to make an impurity list of things to do by the end of summer. It’s also about her best friend Cole who was traumatized in his teens who he’d caused him to have an unhealthy brow of relationships.

Livvy is the perfect imbodiment of an over sheltered and probably stifled young person in a toxic purity culture with a lot (possibly too much) empathy. To the point where she seems almost flat at first. She values others above herself. But, I think this really compliments the point the author was trying to make. This causes her to be a bit of a pushover in a lot of parts of the book. She also is a bit wishywashy and doesn’t have a clear sense of what to do at times. But she’s changing a huge aspect of her life so that made since to me. I also love that the author allowed her to have a kink of her own that she introduced. Coming from such a controlled life and having such a not controlled kink was absolutely perfect to me.

Cole is a bit more complicated. He got traumatized after seeing something he shouldn’t have in his teens. This caused him to have an extremely unhealthy idea about relationships. He also has an unhealthy idea about love. He practically talked himself into the idea that it will never last and the two people would end up hating each other eventually.

They’re both selfish in ways. Both are completely blinded by their feeling. And both are extremely naive about life. They both fit the ideas of ypung adults that honestly have no idea what they’re doing especially which they have tramua from their childhood. And I loved it. I also love how open they conversed about things. It got a bit much here and there but I still loved it.

The writing itself was really good. Simple, concise, and consistent prose. Reading was extremely natural. At no point did I just jumbled while reading. It was an extremely easy read and only took about 4 hours.

The plot was good. Simple. The struggles were mostly internal.  Both characters had to learn some important life lessons for themselves. I wish they had more interaction with the world outside of their relationship towards the end but regardless I liked it.

I wouldn’t consider this book particularly spicy. There’s a spicy scene. And some semi spicy scenes. They were well developed and well executed.

Overall, I think this book works really well if you can relate to the story personally and the overview gets your attention. And I definitely believe the story matches really well with what the author wanted it to convey.

2.5 ⭐️

an absolute abomination, both the characters are so annoying. Livvy is such a dumbass and she also pisses me off all the time in this book. I don’t like Cole either, but I felt like this book was just like Cole was the shitty one, and Livvy is an angel like no. they’re both shitty for their own reasons. It was very creepy how Livvy was practically guilting Cole into having sex with her. I found that Cole’s reasons were very valid. He didn’t want to be with her because he didn’t want to ruin the one good thing in his life and she was like “he hates me he doesn’t think I’m enough” like no Livvy, get it together. That being said Cole was a massive creep himself. All this ‘she’s mine’ bullshit please you’re making me sick. Trying to fuck a girl after you’ve apparently had a kiss with the person you’ve been in love with for years is really fucking weird but I guess for Cole’s character understandable, and I was surprised that Skyler Manson didn’t use that for a grovelling plot. All in all, I don’t think they should’ve ever been together and I hated it. Was so bad I enjoyed though because it was so shit, so shout out to Skyler Manson because I ate this up.
