So, I read this book. It was fine. I related a lot to the purity culture struggle and things I felt when I had these issues with my own faith. I liked the path to her relationship with Jesus. That was all well and good.
I didn’t really like the heroine in relation to the hero though. Number 1- she said she wanted to get over cole, but then proceeds to do the opposite throughout the book. She is pursuing him. And I love a girl who goes after what she wants but, she just said she wanted to move on from him at first.
Number 2- he tells her no at first and she guilt trips him about it since he’s “slept with lots of other girls before.” I’m a big believer of “no” is a full sentence. He asked for time and she didn’t really give it at first until he was like okay at least give me three days.
Number 3- when she did finally confess her feelings, she expected him to immediately get over the shock of finding out his best friend who he’s also been in love with to just immediately be like OMG I LOVE YOU TOO! Let me tell you, if one of my friends said I love you and I’ve been in love with you our whole friendship I’d need time to process.
Number 4- I feel like the last 15% of the book she was literally just punishing him. For no reason.
But, outside of their relationship, I related to her relationship with her parents, not wanting to disappoint them, having her best friend to hype her up and bring her out of her shell. All those things and it was great. I loved that, I just felt like maybe her and cole I don’t know honestly.

From author’s website: “Purity explores the long-term emotional and psychological trauma that can be caused by purity culture and abstinence only education. While it has a fairly kind perspective on Christianity as a whole, it does NOT have a kind view of purity culture. This book contains kinky sex, including primal fantasies and consensual non-consent.”Tags/Tropes:

Let me say that the writing was good and for the right person, this would probably be a 5 star read. For me, however, it wasn’t my cup of tea. I didn’t enjoy the purity/virgin trope, I disliked the characters (thought she actually had the worst friends), and I just didn’t buy the connection between the two mains. The end also felt very rushed.
