Fantastic read! Beautifully explores dynamics of classism, sexism, prioritizing familial abuse and reputation over, no matter the victims. I see myself coming back to “The God of the Woods” again.

Edit - I stewed on this book a bit and decided to raise my review. Just because the women in this book weren’t glaringly strong, doesn’t mean they weren’t strong. This story is about survival and that’s exactly what women in the 50s, 70s and now have to do sometimes. Unfortunately women don’t always have the space to thrive, sometimes it has to be enough to survive.

———————————
Maybe it’s just because I’m in my feminine rage era but this book just felt like it was filled with weak women. I know it’s the reality for many (including myself years ago) to have to deal with overbearing men and just keep the peace to stay safe, but I just wanted more from these women. Even when they were constantly the victim, they were almost villainized as well. It just rubbed me the wrong way. The story itself was incredibly interesting, but it’s hard for me to get past the characters.
