every so often I pick up a popular crime thriller just to see if I might like them. I never do.

I am trying to read more mystery this, and this book was on my to read list. I enjoyed. I really like stories that have multiple points of views and are multifaceted, such as this one. The mystery and the reveal was not super shocking. I kind of expected it but dynamic of different socioeconomic classes of people kept me engaged

This book is like that episode of Kim Possible where she goes to Camp Wannaweep and that bully is a fish monster. And by that I mean that it happens at a camp and crazy sh**t happens

I wanted to love this so bad. It started off really strong, but the slow pace and excessive detail became a drag on the story. Like 90% of the men are HORRIBLE and the women are mostly great but not given enough space and time to breathe and be fleshed out. For how long this book is the characters were kind of flat. I disliked that several of the character storylines towards the end start to resolve themselves off page and they’re reflected on later by a different character.

I listened to the audiobook and it is incredibly difficult to keep track of all of the different POV‘s and all of the different timelines. I’m sure it’s easier in a physical copy but I had to look up a character sheet at 15% in because it was confusing to track. So I would say unless you’re up to the task a physical copy is better.

It’s a book that says a lot when 1/3 of the time it doesn’t need to say anything at all. While I did not predict the ending exactly, it was really obvious to me after 20% in where the author is trying to lead you is not where the story is headed.
