It took me a little bit to get into but once I started piecing things together, whew, what a ride! Reminds me why I don't get along with the majority of public and their sheep/mob mentality. Such cruelty and hatred in a world of warped idols. Definitely a very cool book.

She’s creepy and she’s spooky. This was the crucible with actual devils and witches. Really enjoyed the atmosphere Brom created.

Things I liked:
- we love a dark and twisty something something
- this walked a fine line for me between too far along the demonic line so it was still an easy-ish read
- honestly I love when a character accused of witchcraft - be it in film, TV, or in a book - meets there “f*ck it, we ball” moment and this one did not disappoint
Things I didn’t:
- this dragged. I had a hard time not skimming, especially when it was very clear how this was all going to end
Overall:
Dark, creepy, ideal spooky szn read - a version of all the stories you’ve read that sought to emulate the chaos and terror-mongering of the Salem Witch Trials.

It’s early spring in Connecticut 1666. Abitha Williams lives outside a small puritan village with her devout puritan husband. Her father had sold her as a 17 year old bride when she left England for the new world, so Abitha is still adjusting to the strict pious lifestyle. And while she let her tongue slip a couple times, Abitha stayed out of trouble and life was looking good. Her and her husband Edward had one more farming season before they’d make their last payment to Edward’s brother, Wallace. After this October, the farm would belong to them in title and they’d be able to spend their money more freely. But while Edward and Abitha were making their plans for planting season, something else, some powerful and bloodthirsty (and a little confused) creature was awakening from its deep slumber.
This book is viciously crafted with notes of resilience and merciless revenge seeping throughout. Sure to bewitch even the darkest of harvest nights.
