I listened to the audio, so I can't comment on the illustrations. The story is sweet and engaging, and the text is immersive enough that the listener has no trouble following the story in the absence of the illustrations. Occasionally the music is more distracting than supportive of the narrative, but that may be more about my own audio processing issues than a real concern for most listeners' experience. Recommended.

This book would probably work as a basic introduction to hijabs or khimar, for kids who don’t have those in their life, but it’s more focused on kids whose mums are hijabi, I think. It’s a very good depiction of that time— I remember it very clearly— in early childhood when you want to be Just Like Mommy. Everything she does is magic, especially grownup clothes, and makeup, and fancy hair things. And veils, if you’re Muslim. This is a really lovely look at what it’s like to be that age, and it’s just singing out to be read to a child of that age, by Mom, closing that circle of love and wonderment at the other person.

The story of a little girl who likes to wear her mommy's yellow khimar. The young girl takes the reader through how special the yellow khimar is and shows different interactions with others.

I love this book. I'm so glad I picked it up for class. The illustrations are very bright and cheerful and the representation in this book is so important.

A wonderful book to include in your collection of picture books that represent families. I love that the young girl in the story is celebrating a tradition that bring her joy because of the connection with her mother.

this was so cute! I loved it! it follows a girl who plays pretend with her mom's hijab/khimar. She has fun little adventures where she pretends to be a superhero, princess, and more!

Beautiful, whimsical story and illustrations show a young Muslim girl's imagination and reality of wearing one of her mother's khimars. I enjoyed seeing her imagination and how strong the khimar made her. And the illustrations celebrate the joy radiating from her. Though the very last line confused me a bit as it seemed not to connect with the story before it.

A sweet read with pretty illustrations. I’m grateful the school sends home a range of books for individual kids as it helps expose them to more than what we might serve up if left to our own devices. We’ve gotten this twice now and JP seems to like it a lot.
