This one should have been a hit for me, but unfortunately, it didn't quite do what I had hoped. I almost dnf'd but pushed through. It's a learning process for me I guess. I disliked the fmc pretty early on, and the dialogue and banter didn't feel very natural on several occasions. I hated that there were lies and secrets underneath the story, and I wasn't even aware of all of them. This wouldn't fall under the miscommunication trope perse, but I would say it's definitely adjacent. It really made me dislike the fmc even more that she would keep her secrets for her own gain despite thinking/knowing that she was causing harm to people she cared about. I was really frustrated by the plot twist. The ending felt like it turned the story around a little for me, even if it was a bit forced, but it didn't quite make up for the rest of the book.
A very cute love story that's well written but maybe a little too perfect, so the story felt a little boring at times.

Really cute premise and I loved the inclusion of the video transcripts, but the relationship was a little too insta-lovey and the family drama was exhausting.

Conceptually this book is enjoyable and I actually was super engaged at certain points of this book but I almost gave it a 3 BUT 1. it drags on a way too long and 2. there’s a lot of plot drama that just felt unnecessary and ridiculous.
Someone else mentioned the Charles plot point made no sense and I agree, would it really have been hard for him to just want to offer her the place rather than say oh it’s haunted take it at a steal? I really felt they could have set this up better to make more sense. I know that if Charles didn’t care about the haunted part at the start she wouldn’t have had to lie about the ghost stories but this felt like those examples where the author FORCED something that didn’t fit.
Also for the drama with her family, idk if it’s because I have my own family drama but the FL really was so dramatic abt her family. She’s supposed to be 33 but read like she was 23.
Overall the plot was a fun idea, but it was just too long / pacing felt off. I was shocked to find I was only at the 70% mark while I was listening bc I really felt like it just KEPT going.

Minor: Infidelity
The premise was so fun but the execution felt lacking and by 38% in I felt no chemistry between the characters

If you want something that screams Gilmore Girls, cozy fall sweaters, lattes, and spooky romcom, this is for you! I really enjoyed the simplistic approach to this one for just a feel good contemporary romance.
Don’t worry about being scared or haunted in this one. We have a tough family dynamic that helps us understand the characters better as well.
