Excellent. S.T. Gibson is becoming a real contender for my favourite author. This is probably her best book that I’ve read so far. Constanta is a really special character. The book truly feels like I’m reading her hand written memoir.
The only negative I have about this book is I would have liked to see more our “Dracula” character’s shades. This feels like a strange thing to ask from a memoirist about their abuser, but it’s fiction, so I’m gonna try not to judge myself.
(Apparently, there is a chapter from Dracula’s pov in one of the special editions… why do authors/publishers do this to us?)

The writing in this book is lovely but this was sold to me as a paranormal romance and I think that is a horrible way to categorize this book. It's much more a tale of a woman breaking free from abuse and a toxic relationship. It's simply not the genre of book I want to read currently.

This was very mid for me. It’s dark and short and perfect for spooky season, but it just didn’t hit for me. I think partially that has to do with the fact that I just read Bury our Bones in the Midnight Soil recently which has a very similar premise (vampires in toxic and controlling relationships) and I preferred that book to this one.
The writing is very beautiful, and it showed emotions well but I wasn’t invested in the plot or characters. Also, my copy had a short story that is an epilogue of sorts to the novel that I found to be completely unnecessary and detracts from the original ending.
