This book is one of the most beautiful love letters to finding yourself in the midst of someone else that I have ever laid my eyes on. I cannot get over the portrayal of abuse, pain, love, heartbreak and grief here. It’s so vivid and real, even for the characters being immortal beings of unearthly power. Secrets and lies and twists in Constanta’s life while she is just trying to be a dutiful wife, while she watches others get trapped in the same web she is. Watching her be dangerously in love with a monster who acts like one, and then see her find beautiful and freeing love in the others who were only monsters in body with her is just so powerful. Ugh. I could go on and on. Also one of my favorite features is the journal style of the novel which is similar to the original Dracula. A Dowry of Blood is infinitely better though. Bram Stoker could never.
