We’ll I finally got around to reading this a critically claimed story, and it did not disappoint. My biggest amount of praise is for all of the spoilers. Without going into too much detail I love how the author writes people. They evolve so naturally and you never truly hate the same person through out. Amy was my favorite character and might just be my favorite character in all of literature. The audio book for this was over 20 hours long and it never felt slow and drawn out. This was such a captivating story of love and betrayal.

I seriously loved Amy after we find out she’s behind it all. It just feels like a good for her story even if she acts a little neurotic. Also loved how the misogyny in this story was portrayed (just hear me out). We see these nasty men calling women “stupid bitch” but the women keep winning in the end.   I didn’t care how much of it was made up I still fucking hate Nick. If he wasn’t a prick this wouldn’t be happening.

Overall what a fantastic read that lives up to all the hype. Now I just need to watch the movie

Pretty good thriller, the worst people you've ever met in your life are perfect for eachother.
Flynn describes a bowl of ranch as "semen like" and i will never forgive her for that

Some people should just get a divorce.

Me at the beginning of part 2: Yes Amy!! Girl boss!! Gaslight harder!!

Me at the beginning of part 3: I hope Nick actually fucking kills her and then he goes to jail.

Evocative, thrilling, ridiculously clever, sinister. Sharp and complex commentary on feminism, misogyny, generational trauma, heterosexual relationships, sociopathy, familial dynamics, and the media sphere circa 2010. It’s a lot of ground to cover, but somehow this book weaves these threads together deftly into one whole, complete, devastating portrait of mutually assured destruction.

This is one of the most clever books I’ve ever read. If you think you already know it from the movie, you don’t. I was pleasantly surprised by both the complexity of the characters and the way this book constructs a world informed by patriarchy and misogyny. There are no certainties in this book, and that’s what makes it incredible.

The first time I read this was in a single night during finals week in my sophomore year at Purdue. Just reading the first lines and their haunting introduction reeled me right in again this reread. Admittedly, I prefer the film adaptation because it pulls some of the plot points together more cohesively and paints a more believable setting overall.
