For a fan of Edwards' Tarot Sequence series novels taking place in New Atlantis, this is an excellent companion piece to the third novel, The Hourglass Throne, and the series as a whole, and I hope for more adventures of the kid trio as the series continues. For anyone else though, this absolutely does not stand on its own and would be quite frustrating to pick up thinking it's a new series. It's a "fill in the blanks" side story from The Hourglass Throne, and actually an important one with its own shocking reveals (QUEENIE!?), but it would not make any sense to a new reader. I'm perplexed at the marketing of this one, but for fans of the series, this is surprisingly essential.

Really good read! It was fun to learn more about Rune's kids and their adventure during "The Hourglass Throne". They're all great characters and I especially love Anna and enjoyed reading about her perspective. There are also some secrets revealed that Rune doesn't know yet AND
the Queenie theory is finally confirmed!!!

Super disappointed in this book compared to the main series. The teens were written as fairly one dimensional.

okay this HAS to be read as a companion after book 3, i know it says it's book 1 of this series but it will make no sense if you haven't read the main series (we just launch into book 3 events here)

this perspective actually went really crazy, i'm so excited for the future of this "series" (?) it's the first time i've really loved every character in both the main and spin off series (sorry shadow and bone)

A really solid addition to the HourGlass Throne. As a stand alone novel, it's missing a lot of context. I think I would have preferred this to be included in the previous book. But a good read all the same. My only regret is that i didn't read this immediately after the Hourglass Throne.
