4.0 AVERAGE

I maybe exhausted from so many books in the Witcher Series back to back since November but it could be that the first couple of books were more interesting to me than the later. I am not looking forward to endure another book to finish the series. Maybe Lady of the Lake is better than Baptism of Fire and Tower of Swallows.

This one is, in a word, rough. While Geralt is fighting his way through the world to save his adopted daughter, the focus of this book shifts to the daughter in question, Ciri, who is going through a bit of an identity crisis. She had been going through a lot, being recently orphaned, discovered she was the distant descendent of a psychopathic queen, found a father figure in Geralt and a mother figure in the sorceress Yennefer, a character so profoundly complicated I cannot say much about her beyond the fact that she and Geralt are in love and are also supposedly destined to never be, and they both take that new as well as you can expect. Well, just as Ciri is starting to recover some sanity, all of that is ripped away when they are betrayed, attacked, she is teleported by accident across the world, believes Geralt and Yennefer died because of her, goes a little insane, and joins a band of outlaws under a new name to run from her past. Fortunately, Geralt is not dead and is racing across the world to rescue her. Unfortunately, so is literally everyone else. While the last book focused more on Geralt putting himself back together and finding purpose again, this book is about Ciri finding herself again, being broken almost past recognition, and reforging herself through the crucible of her experiences. I will not lie, this one was a hard read, or listen in my case, but you get the point. It is no less remarkably crafted for its brutal nature, but I think it does knock it down a touch, to a strong 3.8 out of 5.

От сборник с детски приказки, романите за Вещерът се превръщат в глави от фентъзи-опера.

Героите стават все по-противоречиви, подобно на сагата за огън и лед.

Well, at least Ciri finally isn't with the rats anymore, although I didn't find the arena/Bonhart stuff that compelling either. Geralt and co. are still doing the same things they've been doing the last few books.
