Now that I am coming up to the end of the series I have officially arrived at the point of "How will he finish everything in one book?!" I find that this is a pretty common occurrence for me but it is certainly true after finishing The Tower of Swallows.
What I liked.
I liked the Ciri arc the best. My biggest complaint from Baptism of Fire was missing her and Yen and there was a ton of Ciri in this book. That scene on the ice though... that was awesome. What a vivid and fulfilling way to realize her progression. It was perhaps my favorite moment in the series so far.
I feel like I have neglected to mention the world of The Witcher in my other ramblings. The world here, filled with it's monsters and hunters and gangs, has a few aspects that stand out from the many fantasy worlds I have delved into. It does a great job of immersing me. The many races and creatures make for plenty of complex situations in any given scene. I haven't researched it yet but I have a feeling that I could dig into the histories and find lots that would add depth to conversations and battles that I missed before.
What I did not like.
I still struggle with the plot structure. It has continued to jar me out of the story. I am perhaps being too critical; reading too much into the story elements. I mostly struggle with the inconsistent narration. There are a lot of times when it showed events as they happened and then it would switch to someone telling a story of what happened. It has been like this the entire series and I think I am just a simple person that wants more consistency in their tales. I think Ciri's telling of her most recent ventures could have easily been in the last book and been told linearly with the rest of the POVs. It would have made for a much longer book but I think it would have also made for a more complete experience. As it was here, it felt more like an afterthought to me. That there were perceived gaps in the story that needed to be filled so here was a way to do it.
Mostly, I still am enjoying my time with The Witcher series. I have some issues with some smaller aspects of it but largely it has been a series of compelling characters and a rich world.

It's a filler in the series but a funny, entertaining story for our favorite characters. You see the growth in Ciri as a warrior and overcoming her many traumas. I'm so excited for the final book. I can't wait to see how everything ends.
I was just kind of bored with this one to be honest, and the changing format wasn't really enjoyable either. I am going to continue on with Lady of the Lake, I don't expect too much though. I just hope Season of Storms is more like the original short stories books.

Read in German.
I liked the short stories better than the novels. These drag on quite a bit. If it weren't for the fact that I am listening to the most amazing narrator (Peter Kenny, you are AMAZING!) reading these books and bringing these characters to life, I probably would have given up on the series a while ago.
