My favourite book in the saga. The tenebrous prophecies and winding journeys in the previous books finally meet their end. The short, vignette-style prose and the sharp dialogue were intoxicating to read. Not to mention, Ciri takes a starring role in this novel. The Tower of the Swallow makes reading The Witcher series worth it, even if it is not the finale.

I can’t recall the details of what happened in this book, just that we get a great deal of Ciri moments, which is a blessing. She has gone through a lotta shit, with none of that innocence from the first two books. I like Ciri (don’t get why some people dislike her tbh), so it was kinda emotional to read about her trials and tribulations. I just knew that she was forever changed by her experiences.
Yennefer finally makes a comeback in this book, but she basically went from one prison to another. Being Captured was her whole shtick from Baptism of Fire onwards. It might have been for Plot reasons, but the way her character was treated was maddening!!
For the life of me I CANNOT remember whatever happened to Geralt and his hanza here… I think he might have lost his medallion, but maybe that was in the next book (?) But overall I believe he doesn’t make much progress from the previous book, which might be why I don’t remember shit ;;;
The execution of this book leaves much to be desired. There are way too many POV-switches (it’s basically Sapkowski’s signature style now). Theoretically, it could be a good tactic to get readers hooked onto the plot while giving each of the characters adequate showtime, but the poor execution just led to mounting frustration. Too much of the content was spent on characters/topics we don’t particularly care about. Some of it might be justified as world-building, but what I really wanted was to go back to our main characters.
Oh well, already 4/5 done with the saga, I tackled the last book with restrained anticipation.
