I really liked this book. Khai is such a great character. Esme too. I found the dynamic between them pretty good. Also between Khai and Quan.

But the pacing felt weird at some point. Especially at the end with everything happening at the same time, some topics felt rushed.

And I don’t know how to feel about some people and the way they treated Khai

Another great Helen Hoang romance. I devoured this book in 2 days, and I think it's safe to say that my reading slump is officially over thanks to Helen Hoang. This book is almost a perfect book for me. I loved the romance and characters. However, I didn't like the plot with Esme's father. I thought it was supposed to feel like a bigger deal than the space it was given in the novel. It distracted from the strong romance and Esme's other issues and growth.

• this had a rough start for me, i struggled a lot with anxiety while reading about the disruption of routines etc. for Khai at the start, which really didn't help me enjoy the book
• that being said, esme grew on me by the halfway point
• i think i would've liked more by way of connection building (even though i understand that's kind of the whole point of this book), i think i would've liked to see more of what worked for Khai in terms of relationships
• the second half of the book is definitely better than the first half
• i literally squealed at every mention of michael and stella
• quan is just... ugh. love. eternally.
• i want to cuddle khai on a daily basis, especially if he's wearing his reading glasses

TWs: mention of divorce, mention of infertility, motorcycle accident (past), death of loved one (past)
