I didn't like this comic that much... Mostly because the story is really serious and dark. I don't have anything against serious comics, but I think it's boring if the whole comic is serious.
I might have just made a world-rockin' Captain America discovery.
Other than on the cover of Captain America issue #1, I'm not sure Cap actually punched Hitler in the face.
This is going to require further investigation, I'll get more info. But I'm starting to suspect this, like many comics covers, depicts a thing that didn't actually happen in the comics. I KNOW it didn't happen in the issue where it's depicted on the cover.
This could set a dangerous precedent: Is cover material canon?
The comics world may never be the same...

I read this mainly because one of my little kindle challenges was to read a graphic novel and I'm a
completist π. This was fun to see
how different the beginning of this comic arc is vs the movie.
Captain America's never been my favorite superhero. I always felt that there were so many others within Marvel's works alone that rose far above him in terms of coolness. The Winter Soldier arc makes Captain America awesome. Besides being the textual inspiration for one of my favorite films based on comic books, the start of Brubaker's run is a taut thriller that spans the globe as one former soldier is forced to reexamine the traumatic events of his previous life. The intense shadows in the panels provide a Tom Clancy-like atmosphere. If you want your superheroes grimier, closer to our real human existence, this collection is a great consideration.

Great read
Read this on a Kindle Fire and it looked great. The story was good. Someone knocked off the Red Skull, sending Cap on a trip down memory lane. But are the memories real? Well worth your time if you're a Captain America can as it brings in different aspects of his story as well as a few old favourites.

I've been kinda slow to jump on the Captain America fan club train. Probably because he comes across as so sugary sweet that it hurts my teeth. But then, I usually cheer for the bad guys so what do I know?
My friend Jeff had told me that I should read Brubaker's version. I figured if anyone could make me like this character..Brubaker was it. He is one of my comic authors I actually don't one star.
This one isn't bad. It starts off with Red Skull plotting dastardly deeds but that stops in its tracks. This book is actually really well done but there were times I got bored in it. Yes, I expect to be entertained. A graphic novel/comic book only has a short time to catch attention because I read them fast..and I want them to do it.
I don't want to tell much about the plot of this one because it could easily go into spoiler territory. So if you are interested in old Sugar Boy Captain pick it up. He didn't make me want to punch him.

If you are not following or friends with Kemper..just go do it right now. He and Dan (the original) were two of the first reviewers that made me realize "Hey, reviewer's are cool!"..not that I'm ever going to get near as cool as these two guys.
