Ok, so I think I might be the outlier on this one, but I was kinda bored throughout this. Issue 2 was really intriguing, and my rating bumped a .5 star because of issue 7. But I wasn’t really feeling this overall. Maybe I need a break from Captain America. That’s all I’ve been reading for two weeks now lol

Read this because I was curious about the Russo brothers source material. It is different enough that the film is a loose adaptation but each medium has its own strengths. Great storytelling and great job with the big reveal of the winter soldier.

I've never been very interested in Captain America, because, like many others, Captain America seemed boring to me, too goody-two-shoes and good at everything, like Superman, to be appealing. However, I'm impressed by Ed Brubaker's reboot of Captain America. He manages to make the story and characters grittier and more emotionally complex without making the series too dark, or making Steve Rogers too angsty. I think that the addition of flashbacks to Captain America's World War II days successfully incorporates the idea that past experiences sometimes haunt people, especially servicemen and women, and the moral ambiguity that occurs during wartime in the attempt to build a brighter future, both of which are themes which are, relevant in the US, especially in the wake of 9/11 and the armed conflicts in which the US military is involved. Brubaker also deals quite well with the lore timeline, and possible inconsistencies with previous runs. The art for both the present timeline and flashbacks (two different artists) is great, conveying mood and action while melding seamlessly with the text.

Just what I was looking for in a comic book

What is the best MCU film? If you said Winter Soldier then you're a winner, and if you didn't then you're just incorrect. How did the source material hold up? Well, though it doesn't follow the exact plot of the film (which was somewhat expected) it impressed me more than I thought it would. I definitely got caught up in all the tension, which builds over the course of the plot. However it did feel as though it ended in a weird place, so the pay off wasn't quite there, though maybe this will be rectified in vol. 2.
