this is easily one of the best middle grade books I've read in years
characters/flaws/relationships are just so well fleshed out and REAL.
only problem is that it doesn't pass the bechdel test, but I'll give it a chance to do that in the future. get me some stowaway girls posing as cabin boys rn PLEASE

A must for folks who also love Flanagan's Rangers Apprentice series. The Brotherband series follows the (mis)adventures of a band of Skandian boys as they make their way into adulthood. Really fun read.
John Flanagan, author of the popular Ranger's Apprentice series has done it again. I found the first book in his new series, The Brotherband Chronicles, to be another action packed, fast moving read. Hal is a Skandian warrior, but since his father was Skandian and his mother was Araluen he is treated as an outcast. He must work harder than everyone else to prove his worth. –Michael S.-
I really liked this book. The story was thrilling and a real page turner. I really like all the different characters and how they had to work as a team. I recommend for ages ten and up.
Great spin off series from Ranger's Apprentice - set in Skandia
