The third book in Justin Robinson’s monster noir City Of Devil’s series delivers everything I love about this series in spades. It is chock full of humor, monsters, references to classic monster movies and detective films but also wonderful characters and a lot of heart all rooted in a solid mystery with plenty of twists and turns along the way. High recommend.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, which is now live at Skiffy and Fanty. But in brief, of all the noir/urban fantasy mash-ups in all the libraries in all the world, I'm glad this one shows up in mine. Justin Robinson adds just the right touches of humor and heart to these stories of movie monsters not only come to life but ruling the world, and one puny human detective just trying to make his way among the mad scientists, crawling eyes, mummy politicians, vampire lawyers, zombie gangsters and werewolf cops. This third volume introduces a wonderful new character with some surprising characteristics who instantly became a favorite and hey, she gets her own novel coming soon from this prolific whacko. Can't wait!

Another excellent entry in a series that is, I'm sure, passing nearly everyone by. Justin Robinson has not only created a magnificent world, but he's done such a good job that now he can just play in it. And play he does, changing up the structure and the characters in ways that feel organic, earned, and exciting. The previous entry, FIFTY FEET OF TROUBLE, was maybe more fun than this one -- but this is a stronger book, for sure. I hope Robinson keeps playing in the City of Devils, and I hope that he does so for a long, long time.
