Sinful Empire: 4.5 stars! Series: 4.5 stars!

The Mount Trilogy was my first time reading Meghan March, but it definitely won't be my last. She is an excellent writer that employs flawless editors, but more than that, she writes incredible characters. I wouldn't say this story is light by any means, but I also wouldn't call it dark, either. It was the perfect balance for someone like me, someone who enjoys both playing in the light and creeping in the shadows.

Lachlan Mount & Keira Kilgore come from two different worlds, but Mount couldn't care less. He has always taken what he wants, and Keira is no exception. That being said, Keira, a fiery red-head with an explosive temper that rivals Mount, is not willing to go gently into that good night. Most of their story consists of their battle of their wills as they fight both their feelings and each other. If you're a fan of hate sex, purchase the book now.

I love a bad-boy alpha, and that's Mount through and through. He makes no apologies for who he is and I appreciated that about him. He's definitely volatile and ruthless, but by no means sadistic. He might even be described as fair. He always has a purpose, a calculated reason for everything he does... that is, until Keira comes along. He can't understand why he wants her, just that he does... more than anything. That being said, Lachlan Mount isn't the type to turn pussy-whipped over night. He stays true to his character until the end, which I LOVED. He isn't a good guy, but he isn't evil, either. He's... gray. His hard life made him who he is, and no woman alive would realistically make a man like him magically believe that the world is made of unicorns and puppies. He does bend, though, and watching him learn how to love was surprisingly endearing, just as it was reading Keira start to see him in a new light.

God, my feminist soul loved Keira. As the acting CEO of her family's whiskey distillery, she buries herself in work to cope with a devastating betrayal. I admired her tenacity and drive right out of the gate. Then, on top of that, she doesn't allow Mount to treat her like he treats everyone else, like expendable possessions. She demands respect, which excites Mount as much as it enrages him. There were a few times I wanted to throttle her- there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity- but overall, I loved how strong she was.

The first book was a tiny bit slow and repetitive, but the series peaked in the second. I was glued to my Kindle, trying to figure out who Mount really would be with Keira by his side. Would she make him stronger or weaker? By the time I finished to the third book, my fingernails were long gone and I was gasping out loud. I expected who the 'villain' ended up being, but I definitely didn't expect their true identity. I really thought Mount's story would just come full circle with the villain reveal, but March threw me a curveball that I both gawked at and understood.

So, yeah, this series had it all: an engaging plot, surprising twists, super hot sex, spectacular dirty talk, a strong female, and a possessively obsessed dangerous man. Sprinkle in some funny and charming secondary characters and a battle of the wills, and I was hooked!

An absolutely action-packed conclusion to what has been a jaw-dropping series. The punches never stopped landing with this one. I wasn't sure how Mags would be redeemed - Keira had every right to feel that angry, disappointed and betrayed by her. The author managed it though, and in such a way that I happily bought it all.

I can only presume the author had some "murder wall" type planning system that allowed her to keep track of all the crazy threads that seemingly bore no relation to one another until she skillfully pulled them all together. The reveals! The twists! The consequences!!! Wow, just wow.

My buddy read friends and I are all suffering from a massive book hangover now that we've finished this series (in a few days rather than the originally planned several weeks!) Needless to say our plans now include reading the rest of this author's work!
