This is probably a very unpopular opinion but the climax and the final twists here just did not land for me at all lol.

Still a fun journey, and excellent narration, so I don't want to rate below 4 starts, but...hm.

This would have had 5 stars except that Cressida Cowell is a liar about the narrator. I don't care about her change of heart, but it is messed up to have something explicitly laid out in every book and the rules there and then it is a lie.

Cressida Cowell's words and David Tennant's narration is what every book should strive to be. Her books are the ones we listen to over and over again and our world is better because those books are in it. I'm sad this is the last one currently published.

2024 Update: The thrilling conclusion! We delayed bedtime more than one right to find a calm enough place to pause. I found the epilogue less contrived this time, and it definitely got my kids intrigued about Aurthur-ian legends. I loved the clever problem solving, and the larger themes. I wished the conclusion to "is love weakness" had been spelled out a little more directly, like some of the other questions/themes in the book, because that felt a bit side-stepped in comparison.
-----------------
This was a rousing and clever ending to the series. Will Wish and Xar defeat the Witch King? Who is the unknown narrator? Will Wizards and Warriors be able to come together? Is love simply a weakness?

Cowell ends the series neatly (but not pat-ly) and opens some intriguing doors for future endeavors.

I immediately want to go back to the beginning again to find all the clues about the unknown narrator that I missed and simply to spend more time with Squeezejuice, the enchanted spoon, and David Tennant's outstanding narration.

Is the book really this good, or is it just David Tennant's audiobook performance?

Okay, it's both.
