Of the four sections, the first two were shaped more like fiction. I wish she had saved the last two sections to be fleshed out, edited down, and shaped into a second volume, if at all. She still doesn't have enough distance from the material to fully handle it.

Really beautiful story that I could relate to. Families are hard. And the authors honest and vulnerable portrayal of her family is just amazing. I’m taking away 0.5 starts because I felt like a lot of the poetry was lost on me lol

Absolutely beautiful! The writing .. the story .. all of it. This is the best Memoir I’ve ever read and one that will always be so special to me.

Started slow but become more and more engaging as the protagonist became more aware of the destructive nature of her father and discovered her own strength. At the end I found it hard to put down. Complex and incredibly poetic, but not in an overbearing way.
