This is based off of an Agatha  Christie mystery which I did not go into knowing and one that I am unfamiliar with.
My official review is that I don’t know how to review this book. Seriously.

I loved the writing, I found most of the characters interesting (Holiday!), I thougt some of the chapters before the final one did a great job of building the tension, and I was genuinely intrigued by the mystery despite thinking it held no weight over the main character (besides developing him/his relationship with the Kendricks as he tried to solve it).  Cotugno has a way of really immersing you into the story, even when writing from a 17-year-old boy’s perspective. What makes me hesitant to like this book is the ending.

To add on to my disappointment,  there was a second mystery (or just something I hoped would be answered by the end) that was never solved. Maybe I would know what that was all about if I read the book it was based on or maybe she’s setting it up for a sequel but either way I’m left dissatisfied and confused.

I love Katie Cotugno and I’m glad she’s branching out with her writing. The setting and characters were great in this one but at the end of the day this is probably one of my least favorites from her. I enjoyed reading it? but, man, that ending really makes me question how I feel about the book.

I’ll still reccomend it to fans of We Were Liars, to folks who want a simple beach town mystery, or for a quick summer read. Just be warned.
