I’m not sure what’s wrong, I really wanted to love this story and I just didn’t. I’m on page 224 out of 384 and it’s been almost 10 days-I usually read a couple of books in that time period.

I think the book was pretty good, but also really really confusing. the plot was told very slowly and unchronologically. I'm honestly a bit ambivalent about the book. on the one hand, the book was a bit drawn out and lacking in plot, but on the other hand, I was intrigued by the book. I can't really describe why... somehow the book had a certain something!!
A beautiful atmospheric book which I really enjoyed reading. It came together wonderfully at the end tying all loose pieces into place.

postaci były jednowymiarowe, relacje między nimi również. ich postępowanie i emocje zupełnie dla mnie niezrozumiałe (och, popełnię samobójstwo dla ciebie, żebyś ty nie musiał - ok, ale czemu ktoś tu musi umrzeć akurat teraz, a nie za 100 lat?). rywalizacja między "głównymi" (cudzysłów, bo gdyby nie opis książki z tyłu okładki, to bym nie do końca była pewna, że to oni są protagonistami) bohaterami nie bardzo była rywalizacją, a do tego nie wiadomo nawet, dlaczego w ogóle ta "gra" istnieje, w imię czego i po co. nic nie zostało wytłumaczone, a ostatni rozdział, który miał trochę przybliżyć filozofię A. H, niczego nie przybliżył, a jedynie popsuł magię i tajemniczość tej postaci.

I was never super drawn into the story, the jumping around storyline confused me a little but the writing was fantastic and I enjoyed the reveals and twists

Felt incredibly slow and I never really cared about the romance or the mentors. The circus itself felt very magical and the descriptions and cool things within the circus are the only reason it’s not a flat 1 from me. I think it’s possible I would have enjoyed this more if it wasn’t sold to me as an enemies to lovers romance because it was not that lol.

For some reason I couldn’t connect to this book... I think it’s partially because of the way it’s written, it was pretty difficult for me to follow the plot and the characters. There was a lot I couldn’t understand or even imagine and while I was fascinated by the circus, I couldn’t bring myself to care for the characters and what would happen to them. I know magic isn’t something that one can rationalize, but I feel like the magic here was hard to grasp, it felt all over the place and the plot didn’t help much.
