The tension and angst in this is great! I adore Scotty and his bluntness. I adore Mason & Scottyโs relationship, and how seamlessly Harper fits into their lives.

"The boy with ice around his heart loved the girl with her heart on her sleeve. And it didn't get much better than that."
- College romance
- Hockey romance
- Grumpy/sunshine
- Kinda enemies to lovers
- โOne night onlyโ
- Assistant coachโs daughter
- FMC with celiac disease
- Dual POV & duet narration
This book hooked me from the beginning as Mason and Harper were such complex characters and there was a delicious dose of angst mixed in. Mason was SO rude to Harper from their first interaction. He put the enemy into enemies to lovers ๐. In my opinion, he was literally skating on thin ice!
But then you see him interacting with his autistic brother and you realise thereโs more than what meets the eye. Mainly, heโs a hockey player under a lot of stress trying to survive college and selflessly be there for his family.
Meanwhile, I instantly liked Harper. As the story develops I was eager to learn the history behind her complicated relationship with her father. His "indifference and outright rejection" shaped her into a woman "starved of affection" and craving attention and urgh, my heart broke for her ๐ฅบ. She wore her heart on her sleeve but she was always so kind and deserved so much better.
It starts as one night only, but then afterwards Mason starts to see Harper for who she really is. Her relationship with his brother cements his feelings and I love how he goes from never to you're mine ๐ซ . "I was starting to crave her light, her warmth, the inherent goodness insider her." Their relationship had its rocky moments but Mason was committed to letting her in and never letting her go.
Add in some great representation and you have a college hockey romance with a lot of depth that's expertly narrated by Stella Hunter and Teddy Hamilton. Seriously, I'm in awe of how they can so easily change their voices for the younger and older generation. I loved them so much that I instantly bought the audiobook for Break the Ice (book one) because they narrate it as well.
Thank you to Forever and Always PR and L.A. Cotton for the ALC!

โ๏ธI received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarilyโ๏ธ
This is the second book in the ๐๐๐ค๐๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฌ. This is Harper and Masonโs story.
Harper Dixon just found out, her dad is the new Lakeshore Lakers hockey team assistant coach. Harper canโt seem to get out from under her dad legendary hockey legacy. Since she grew up around the sport, most guys assume sheโs a puck bunny.
Mason, the grump you canโt help but love. Going to college, Mason felt bad leaving is autistic younger brother, and single mom, so he spends any chance with them he can.
Harper ends up volunteering, at the program, Scottie, Masonโs brother is a part of. Harper, and Scottieโs relationship isnโt one I saw coming, but oh how it made my heart swell. Harper is so good with him. Since Scottie is spending so much time with Harper, it kind of makes Mason in return spend a lot of time with her.
The relationship between Harper and Mason is so sweet. I loved their banter, and the angst between them. They both judged the other before they actually knew each other, and were both wrong. Even though theyโre were opposites, they complimented each other so well.

When Harper Dixon discovers her father is the Lakeshore U Lakers new assistant coach, she wonders if her life can get any worse.
Enter Mason Steele.
Arrogant. Cold. With enough ice around his heart to freeze anyone who gets too close.
When Mason proposes one night to exorcise the fiery attraction between them, the last thing he expects is to wake up to an empty bed the next morning.
Or to find himself unable to get his new coachโs daughter out of his thoughts.
Heโs Lakeshore Uโs broody left winger with the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Sheโs vivacious, persistent, and has puck bunny written all over her.
Can Mason stick to his biggest rule and keep Harper out of his headโand his bed?
Or will she be able to prove to him that sometimes skating on thin ice is worth the risk?

Thoughts ~ This universe keeps getting better! Mason is ๐ฅ๐ The grumpiest, broodiest, kindest (to those that manage to break through his ice cold shell) hockey player! I loved the development of Mason and Harper alongside all of the side characters! I especially loved Scottie! Mason was down-right rude during their very first encounter and kept getting worse until Harper managed to break through, showing that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover!

Another great Lakeshore U sports romance from LA Cotton! I finished this in a day! Mason is a grumpy hockey player who doesn't really trust easily and immediately disliked Harper from his perceived thoughts about what kind of person she was, but Harper didn't let that dim her shine. She was amazing with his brother and she was finally able to crack Mason's hard exterior. I loved these two and I can't wait for more Lakeshore U!
