I didn't expect Harper's book to hit the feeling the way it did. Have a box of tissues ready. Mason and Harper's story was so amazing I couldn't put it down. They are perfect together. Honestly, I feel like this is my favorite couple so far in the Lakeshore U series. I can't wait for the next one.

It’s funny that as I was reading this book, I thought that the characters were being very juvenile and then realized that of course, they are college students, who still haven’t got it together yet.

Mason is under a lot of stress from the pressures of hockey, studies and his brother back home. His father abandoned them when his brother was diagnosed as autistic, and his mother is struggling dealing with twelve year old Scottie alone. That’s why Mason drives so often home, in spite of the 1.5 hour drive, to help his mother deal with Scottie. He has no time for girlfriends, not even the puck bunny variety and he’s always going around like a cold-eyed grump.

Harper is hanging with the hockey crowd because of her bestie Rory who is Noah’s girlfriend. She’s very extra, so Mason clashes with her a lot, keeping her away from him. Immediately I knew he was afraid because he was very, very attracted to her.

The story is rich in contrasts, grumpy Mason to kind Harper. We learn that her father is a hockey legend but he’s always ignored her, which explains why she’s clingy. When she volunteers in a center where Scottie spends some afternoons, she wins Scottie over because she’s kind and patient with him. She accepts him with all his quirks and tics and this is when things start to change between Mason and Harper.

I loved their story, there was a lot of trust and acceptance. For Harper, being seen for the good person she is instead of the girl always looking for approval was important; she felt seen. And Camden felt like some of the weight on him was alleviated because she got him and helped with his little brother.

What I didn’t like was how much she griped about her father and how he doesn’t love her, and how much Mason kept talking about the pressures he’s under. I felt they needed more action and less whining. Even so, they’re story is lovely and entertaining, and it has many emotional moments and sexy times.

I really enjoyed this grumpy/sunshine, angsty, fast-paced hockey romance! Harper and Mason’s story was full of snark, banter, and chemistry! These characters were amazing and it was refreshing to see depth and inclusion when it comes to these characters. The narrators really helped make this book what it is and I love it!

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Holy Moly! Mason you heart stealing hockey stud!
Once you think you know Mason, you’re wrong. Mason Brother is so much more than a pretty face and star player.
Mason comes off as the angry, aggressive grump but there is so much more to him at the core.
Oh Harper Dixon! You sweet baby bean. I can’t tell you how many times, I just wanted to pull her out of this book and hold her.
My heart was so crushed for Harper, knowing everything she’s gone through and to have so much good in her, giving her time and herself to help others – My heart was so full.
Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter are together again in this series and I can’t tell you how much I love these two together. They just feed off of each other so well. They both do something special with the range of emotions in these characters.
I’m so obsessed with this series and can’t wait for the next one!

L.A Cotton once again brings us another brilliantly written sports romance.
Hockey player Mason Steele has a lot of pressure sitting on his shoulders. Knowing his mom's struggles and trying to help with his little brother, he doesn't need the complication of a needy puck bunny and that's what he sees in Harper.
Harper knows she can be a lot and it's not always easy for people to accept her for her, especially when it comes to her father.
We met both of these characters into previous books and because we don't know them, you start to perceive them a certain way.
As we got to know more about Mase and Harper through this book, we start to realise that there is more to them than what we see on we surface. They both deal with things in their own way, where Mase is cold and grumpy, Harper is chirpy and over the top.
L.A writes with such authenticity that makes these characters come alive. The banter between the players feels real, like this is what I would see and hear if I did step into a college hockey locker room.
She writes her characters with such emotion and you can't help but fall in love with all of them. You could tell Harper and Mase grew as characters, they started to realise that they can let people in and not everyone has ulterior motives. I love that when we read about one of the Lakers there's a whole list of supporting characters that are just as involved and are there to quite literally be supportive.
I feel like these books help to show that college sports stars are people too and they go through life with the same pressures as all of us, but its twofold for them, because they've got the added pressure of being in the spotlight.
Another really well written book. For lovers of sports romance, put L.A Cotton at the top of your list!

OMG this book!!! Moson is… well,.. kind of a jerk. He is a great hockey player. He’s better than he lets everyone believe, because he’s got so much on him. He’s a college student, a hockey player, but he’s also a son, and a brother of an autistic boy who responds to him when he’s upset. Mason’s pulled in so many directions that he’s holding back his talent because he knows if he makes it to the NHL he’ll be further away from his family.

Harper, also a college student, grew up knowing that she was a disappointment to her father… because she was born a girl, and she suffers from celiac disease, which makes her even more disappointing. He wanted a son, and made no bones about telling her that while drinking. I think her father is a jerk. I’m just putting that out there.. and jerk.. that’s a nicer word than I want to use. When her father comes to Lakeshore, as an assistant coach to the hockey team, she didn’t know it was happening until he’s already there… then he takes a liking to Mason and, well.. there’s that layer too.

I’ve written this a couple of times because there’s a lot I want to say, but I’m going to say that it’s an excellent book. The interpersonal relationships and the struggles of families is so real and well written that it will keep you reading. I had the opportunity to read AND listen to the audio and loved the book even more after listening to it and having it read to me for a second time. If you’re a reader, read this book. If you’re a listener, listen to it. But you need it.

Mason Steele and Harper Dixon

“The boy with ice around his heart loved the girl with her heart on her sleeve”.

Mason was a hard nut to crack. I honestly didn’t like him and kept telling Harper in my head that she could could do SO much better. Lol. But Mason Steele definitely redeems himself.
Hockey is life for this team at Lakeshore U but Mason has his family to worry about. With his father stepping out, and leaving his mom single, working, and raising a pre-teen with autism, she’s overwhelmed.
Mason and his little brother are best friends. I seriously adored Scottie and thought the author did an amazing job highlighting what autism can look like for someone on the spectrum. Mason is being pulled in different directions. He wants to be there for his mom and brother (especially since the father walked out) and Mason also has hockey, his team, school, keeping grades up, a social life.
He’s got NO time for chicks. Especially highly annoying ones and puck bunnies…

Harper Dixon is a social butterfly. She enjoys attention and the idea of romance. But she loves hockey. She knows hockey. Her father was a famous hockey player at one time… but Harper has her own demons. Everyone can idolize her father but she knows the real person he is. An awful man. And it created some daddy issues.
Harper just wants to be loved. She sees something the Mason when she watches Mason with Scottie…. She keeps pursuing him.

This is kinda an enemies to lovers, opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine, we got daddy issues, hockey, college slow burn romance.

We see previous characters grow more and some crazy stuff happens. I love when all the guys and girls get together and we see the romance between everyone! I highly recommend reading this series in order and the prequels!
