If you loved Choose Your Own Adventure stories and Star Trek, this is the comic book for you. If you are a rule follower, you miss the point of CYOA.
This is a Mariner-centric story; as she is my favorite character, I am not complaining. She tackles everything exactly as she should until she figures out that she must do something different. Just like you must do something different, dear reader.
Mariner having no patience for Khan was perhaps my favorite part. Plus, a fun look at the hydroponics bay in the Certios.
Perhaps a smidgen too long, North understands the assignment entirely.

Ryan North has a certain set of skills. If you read any of his work long enough, it's bound to hit on time travel, or become a choose your own adventure—or both! This is one of the best and most interesting choose your own adventure stories of his now quite-lengthy canon, and (as a big fan of the show) it's also a really fun visit with the Lower Decks characters. I had a great time working through this and figuring out its secrets, and I am saying that as a person who hates doing math, and was forced by this book to do math! The ebook copy I had was off by like four pages so I also had to do like very standard math every single time I had to "go to page X" and I kept a big list of all the paths I'd gone down already to keep track. It was suspiciously like homework, and yet I enjoyed the heck out of it. This book can trick you into doing homework!
This is the perfect gift for any Lower Decks Fan or those of us who miss Choose Your Own Adventures. The Art and writing are straight out of an episode. I have read through this about eight times, and there are still more paths. You will definitely find yourself laughing out loud. The Digital version is a little hard to navigate, but I still loved every minute of it.
Mariner is just trying to have a day off. You have to help her choose her path to that. With this crew, there will be chaos along the way.
Thank You to NetGalley and the publishers for this Arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ryan North has a very important quality in a comics writer: you can tell that the characters you know are themselves, but you can also tell you are reading Ryan North. So if you like Lower Decks, which I do, and you like Ryan North, which I do, you really can't go wrong - unless, I suppose, you don't like the choose-your-own-adventure format. But this book was literally hours of fun.
A super fun story! I would definitely recommend watching Lower Decks before reading this to be more familiar with the characters and their personalities.
I wished that when the option you picked ended it would give you the page number to return to instead of simply saying "the end". Having to remember where to jump back to took away from the enjoyment of reading this style of book.
