Read for English class

Reread this for a class I’m teaching (Introduction to African American Literature). I’ve read it numerous times before as both an undergraduate and graduate student. It continues to be impactful. Curious to see what students think of it.

Really powerful book. I had to annotate for school which made me understand it a lot more. This is like catch-22 with multiple characters deciding to “die on one’s feet or live on one’s knees”

The play is overall incredible. It showcases the motivations of a black lower-class family around the 40's in the most sensitive but realistic way. However, the third act was a bit too fast for me.

A beautiful, moving play with an incredible, tragic hero at the forefront. Excited to read this with students and help them feel the gravity of this situation.
