Very interesting history but I didn't really enjoy the author's voice. He was very pro colonialism which makes sense since it was written in 1938... But also he acted like Magellan was the coolest person ever... While he did achieve something amazing, he also seems like a bit of an asshole to me tbh.

Glad I read it, wouldn't recommend it as a casual read... Just to someone who is particularly interested in the history of sailing and exploration.

As always with Stefan Zweig, written in his quite exited tone where he tends to almost overdo emotions, feelings and actions - but still again as always with him also a very interesting and captivating read about Magellan and his time

A quick and easy read, with some fun old-timey vernacular.
