How Does One Sum Up the Ending You’ve Waited So Long For?

**COTAINS PREVIOUS BOOKS’ SPOILERS**

This book was received as an ARC for my honest review

In the first book we meet Jack who is just a boy wanting to survive since pre-Flash. He knew that he wanted out of his situation. Because of one girl he survives the flash, finds his girl, and they ride out to start their epic journey after-Flash. We as readers fall in love with Jack, and personally I never knew why other than he saves Evie from zombies, Major Arcana, cannibals, slavers, and herself. Death/Aric comes into this story as the Endless Knight, a man who is desperate for his Empress, heartbroken by her, betrayed by her, and yet burns for her with so much love. Now readers, and Evie, love both of these men, and from there she learns that she could never be without the other. Readers decide who should win Evie’s heart, and Evie has to not only choose, but needs to survive in a world altering game created by the Gods. Over the arc of the books, leading up to the last, I too was lost in how Evie is to choose between these two characters, and forgot about the game…The Game. Sue a few characters pop up in each book, these single characters eventually die. I think it was the purpose of this series to place a bunch of gods in the last book, a show of true battle when comes to The Game. The Game is the infinity symbol, Evie may have wanted to break the cycle, but can she?
At the end of the previous book in this series, The Dark Calling, we see Evie gain another two icons, watch Jack walk away, again, and not quite ready to unleash her power of the Red Witch. From The Grave picks up that same last chapter, Evie pregnant and again with Aric, as they begin to fall back in the same rhythms of life they have had before. There are some differences in this book. We are waiting on Evie’s baby, convergence of Arcana, we know there will be battles, arsenals, and where in the world is Matthew? So many thoughts swirl in my head as this book comes to its final conclusion. To keep it spoiler free: a final battle, an unknown worthy end, the world’s return, and the end of……just the end. You will laugh, love, and by the gods, you will CRY, followed by love, and a fantastical closure you would never have seen coming. As little as spoilers I can give you. FIVE STARS Kresley. I may have waited forever to get here, but this series is never one I’ll forget, it shall ever remain on my shelves, remain in my heart, and I will never strop rereading this series. I am crying by just saying goodbye to the ending and it was such a great ending this series could ever have. It deserves every FIVE STARS

To borrow a phrase from my podna Ole Jack: "Um, um, UM!" — that ending couldn't have been more perfect. 🥹

What an epic ride this series was! I miss it already.

This ending felt incredibly rushed to me. The previous books I stayed up all night for, I was invested. The action was wonderfully written and I highly recommended the series. This book came after a five year hiatus and it left me completely disappointed. I didn't feel any emotions at all reading it, everything went by in a blur, and the ending was honestly cheesy and a major cop out. I don't usually mind predictable endings or happy endings, but this was so bland. The only thing that made me feel was the sheer amount of cringe feelings I got reading the final lines. I expected much more-- not whatever THIS was.

I didn’t like the ending. There was a moment I thought were going a slightly different direction, a direction I kind of liked. Instead

While my opinions of Evie/Jack/Aric stand, I do believe this final book saved the series for me. It was a satisfying ending and I can now rest easy. A sincere thanks to KC for the real roller coaster and emotional ride I took with my utter disdain for half of the series while keeping the other half so freaking entertaining that I had to keep reading. Hats off to you, and ultimately, I would recommend this series to friends.
