This is a tough read. I would consider this a “hard Vonnegut”. A classic and way funnier than I thought. Super hard to follow at times. Every chapter highlights someone else and I think that is the point, but it gets very confusing. I enjoyed the humor and satirical parts, and had to accept that sometimes things don’t make any sense. Like life and war! I enjoyed it for the most part and see that it’s an important part of literature

Catch 22 is a satire so sharp and absurd, it feels like a funhouse mirror of war, bureaucracy, human contradiction. Heller’s wit and his talent for twisting logic into ridiculous pretzels is undeniable, and the novel reads like a fever dream where every sane decision has an insane consequence.

However, at times it felt like it was missing something. Perhaps narrative cohesion or emotional depth. Sometimes the surreal repetition often can feel like noise as the book progresses. I did quite like that the intentional disorienting and non-linear structure adds to its madness though. Overall, I enjoyed this read.
