From the description, I anticipated The Drift to be a story of survival and it was, to a certain degree. The Drift has three parallel storylines that each contain a locked room mystery and are set in a world reeling from a deadly infection.
Although I did enjoy the last 10% of the book and how everything is pulled together, for most of the story I found that there were too many characters to keep track of, many of whom lack the depth of personality to distinguish them from one another. I also felt that too much time was spent on characters who ultimately did not have a very strong part in the plot line and not enough detailed attention or explanation was given to the virus at hand or the Retreat. I frequently found myself confused and wondering if there were pages that I had missed with pertinent details as to what was going on.
Overall, an interesting apocalyptic thriller/mystery with a few surprise twists, but for me personally, fairly forgettable.
Thank you to NetGalley, CJ Tudor, and Ballantine Books for this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

Well, this was good, but didnt seem up to Tudor's standard. I guessed the 🤯 bit and was a little disappointed in the ending, but overall it was a solid story and kept my attention.
If mysteries and thrillers are your thing...then this is your book! Add shades of catastrophe, dystopia, apocalypse, and the fight for survival--the result is a page-turner that will keep you engrossed from the first page to the last.
C.J. Tudor does a fantastic job of telling three distinct, yet interconnected stories. This was one of those books that surprised me. Twists and turns are always there in mysteries, but seldom is a puzzle laid so intricately that I am surprised at where we land.
The book's description says: "The imminent dangers faced by Hannah, Meg, and Carter are each one part of the puzzle." That is so very true, just about every piece of the puzzle fits in the end, even if you didn't think it essential when you originally read it.
Highly recommended. One of the best books I have read this year. I am now adding C.J. Tudor to my list of favorite authors.

Captivating, well written story that kept me wondering how it all came together.
I was recommended this book by a colleague who assured me that this book was super weird and that I’d love it, and for the most part, I did.
Setting was well established, and the apocalyptic aesthetic was so present throughout. Everything felt oppressive, like the surroundings as well as other characters could all be after you. Characters were well fleshed out, everyone acting in their own best interests but within their established character. Sarah is a prime example, her fear and her religion being the driving force for all of her actions.
The premise of the book, three different groups of people having their stories happening simultaneously is always super fun to me, and part of the fun is trying to work out how all these groups are going to eventually come together in the narrative. Sadly I don’t think it did. Once the link between the three groups revealed, things seemed to slow down and one character I didn’t care much for throughout became the main focus. And even then, the ending didn’t feel satisfying. After all the build up and the intrigue and the tension, I came away thinking “oh…okay?”
I’d recommend this book for sure, it is a solid post-apocalyptic story that hits a certain nerve after we’ve all experienced Covid, but the last 30/25% of the book just fell a little flat to me, after what was a majorly promising majority.
