I actually liked the book in general but the number of misused words was appalling. Plumb instead of plump, wooded instead of wooden, etc. Needs proofreading! Some of the character interactions were great while others were just irritating.
Creepy read
I don't read a lot of creepy or scary books but this one seemed interesting so I decided to give it a shot and it didn't disappoint! I love how unreliable Cami is as a narrator and all of the twists and turns in this story. The ending kind of shocked me which is why Book 2 is downloading as I write this.

Best book I’ve read all year! It’s the perfect amount of mystery and horror!
Line Editing...
The story was really good, but the book overall could use some line editing for typos and misused words that were probably meant to be other words. If its supposed to be reverse harem it definitely takes slow burn at a snail's pace as it does little more than introduce potential romantic interests. The ending was frustrating because I want to know what happens next, but overall the story was interesting.

Good story, HORRIBLE editing
This had potential, it was a really intriguing story. However, the complete lack of editing really ruined it. The characters are fun, and I LOVE how the author captured what anxiety and depression really look like. The cheesy wannabe gang? No. Just no. Don’t try to write about something you clearly have no concept of. The cliche leather jacket with skulls? And the name ‘Creepers’? The worst attempt at creating a gang. Unless the aim was for them to be cheesy wannabes, the author failed tragically.
This book really is like a train wreck you can’t look away from. Please take the time in the future to hire an editor! Intimating instead of intimidating, and using enduring (a verb) as an adjective? Sense in stead of since... the list of errors are endless, and some of the errors were so great they were almost impossible to decipher. A lot of run-on sentences, misuse of punctuation, and misspelled words.
Another major red flag in this book for me was Cami’s view of beauty. She’s Latina, but within the first chapter she immediately called herself ugly and claimed she wished she were white with blonde hair and blue eyes. YIKES! Since when is being white, blonde, or blue eyed the definition of beauty? There was no attempt to explain why Cami felt this way other than a passing remark about her best friend having this appearance. You do realize there are different ideas of beauty aside from the white girl stereotype, right? Was a little insulting to both ethnicities.
If you’re plannings on spending money on this book, don’t. Do yourself a favor and buy a book from an author that actually made the attempt to edit the book.

Katie May is an author who never disappoints. Everything I've read by her is amazing and this book is no different!
Gangs and Ghosts is intense and confusing and definitely a bit spooky. I had no idea what to expect when I picked this up and honestly, upon finishing, I still don't quite know what's going on. But I was pulled in from the first chapter and engrossed until the end. Cami's story is dark and intriguing and definitely a must read!

The first thing I want to point out about this series: I love how the FMC, Camila, often has severe cases of word vomit. It's pretty funny at times, and between that and the twins, Leroy and Luke (particularly Leroy), you'll likely find yourself chuckling quite a few times in this series.
While this series is a bit darker, I'd say this is more for older teens / YA. Kind of a spoiler: There's ZERO "steamy scenes" in any of these books. There's make out sessions, but it never goes further than that (admittedly, I'm disappointed!).
PLOT: Cami is found when she's around 3 years old living on her own in the woods in a very run down shack. She's advanced for her age, and is adopted by a same sex couple who are the absolute sweetest. Until she's 6 years old, she talks about how the Shadow Man made her do things that resulted in her getting into trouble. It stops when she falls and hits her head, and she loses all of her earlier memories.
Fast forward 11 years, Cami and her family move to a small town. Students, as well as her cute young neighbour, let her know that her house is haunted and considered the "Hell House". She starts having weird dreams and strange things begin to happen that finally make her ask for help from new friends to figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, there's a couple of mysterious, ritualistic looking deaths of students that both have a connection to Cami, and she starts to get freaked out. Is she subconsciously killing people? Is there something else more sinister?

This is a good book that almost gets lost in the pile of YA tropes. Girl who never thought she was beautiful moves to small town where she immediately is inundated by gorgeous guys who are obsessed with her. The brooding bad boy with the troubled past. The slightly older brooding bad boy with a troubled past. The hot high school football star with the troubled past. The beautiful and eccentric twins.....with a troubled past. The sexy next door neighbor boy...with...say it with me now! A troubled past. ::eyeroll emoji:: And then the book ends on a cliffhanger which always annoys me. It seems like a cheap trick to make you buy the next book. Why not just make the first book good enough that people want to read the second anyways?
All that said, if you have a high tolerance for those tropes, there is an interesting book underneath it all.
