ecological ambiguity, why art is a “transparent bag of eyes,” and the “beauty soup isn’t for eating,” and how that uncanny not-me quality might save us from mass extinction….and why i continue to preach environmental humanities to my friends

Ugh. So self indulgent and yet so devoid of pleasure. An extended opinion piece that traverses all over the place (but really only dead white men) and concludes that everything is always already OK with the smug tone of someone who lets their partner do all the emotional labour.

All through it I was trying to tell myself it's just me, I am just grumpy/hormonal but every time I grabbed onto something able to try to give him a bit of credit for a good idea (though not an original one) he'd ruin it by taking it into the smug tone.

I'm very disappointed. I bought a whole heap from this series so I hope they won't all be this level of self-indulgent nonsense.

Initially this book was really promising, but it just descended into the ramblings of an individual determined to prove his intelligence. Personal opinion, you might love it. It just felt a bit too pretentious for me to be able to appreciate the real point.
