The trouble with writing family portraits that are very general, with the intent of making them universal, is that ironically they can lose the specificity that makes them ring as honest. That's happened here, IMO. Add in that "good mean fun" is not my bag, and the forced rhymes took me out of the work further, and yup, this one isn't for me.

Chappell has a great reputation, so I'm hoping this particular work is not his finest, and will seek out more.
