I thought the book had a lot of the right ingredients to be a good romantasy, but the execution was a bit lackluster. The brother (whose name is way too close to the Tigris River), repeatedly acts as a plot hole filler. The MC is also annoyingly overreactive.
Spoiler: the plot line about her being the princess of the hybrids is very overdone. I would have liked to see that one not happen.
That being said, I will probably read the rest of the series. I think Stark could be a really great writer with more experience and a better editor (emphasis on the better editor).

I liked it. There was however alot of character names that made it hard for me to remember most of the time.
The fmc gets called wildcat which made me think about High School Musical, which is nothing negative, just a lil funny

Why has it taken so long for me to read this? It’s so good! Look, all the scenes, all the situations, the tropes that happened in this book…they’ve been done before in fantasy. But they work. It works. And it reminds me of the type of fantasy I love. I have loved in the past. Uncomplicated but complicated plot…angsty love situation….rebellions…I love it. And this was done really well. I couldn’t put it down.

The writing for this novel is almost painfully elementary. Just a lot of all tell with no show.
That being said, still crushed through it because the concept itself is compelling. Otherwise, this would be unreadable imo.
