I want to tentatively say this was good. It was engaging, I was interested and invested in the main plot.
I feel like the enemies-to-lovers romance was a little lacking and could have used more tension on Prisca's end. The dual POV was fine but it felt like Lorian was all about Prisca, even though he is a brute and makes a perfect enemy, whereas Prisca was like hey he's hot I enjoy thinking about him in my downtime. She's mainly focused on her own goal. Which is fine, we love a woman who doesn't need to think about a man all day to get her goals accomplished. But the romance felt a bit one-sided.
As with most romantasy books, the pacing drags and drags and then it all comes at you like a freight train in the last chapter. The world-building is kept to a minimum, which doesn't bother me much. The entirety of the story takes place in the castle, so I'll be interested to see how the world is built out in the next book.
I listened to the audiobook so I fully admit I may have missed some things. I'm looking forward to the next book.
