In this tale of  little riding hood by Lari Don and illustrated by Celia Chauffrey. In this fairytale which was published in 2012 a young girl finds herself on a trip she will never forget. Given a task to deliver a basket of goodies to her grandmother she meets the most handsome and clever wolf. Red Riding hood is distracted and listens to the wolf. This story does have a bit of a dark side to it because
They get eaten by a wolf and the wolf is killed. This is a good story for teaching young children (around the ages of 3-6) how we need to pay attention to what people tell us to do. We must listen to our elders. I think this story could be used in a pre-k or K classroom. This story could be changed into a game where students must convince others to not follow directions and if they listen to the "wolf" they lose. The catch is that only the teacher and the student they pick knows who the wolf is.

The illustrations are so full of texture! I especially want to reach out and pet the wolf because he looks so fuzzy. He has such cute little toe beans that I bet would feel very soft!

In this adaptation, Little Red Riding Hood learns a hard lesson about the importance of not telling every little personal details of your life story to random strangers. More kids are in desperate need of this lesson what with their increasing access to the internet and a surprising lack of online safety lessons taking place in the home. Although this story's more Grimm-aligned plot points did not engage the bored four-year-old who asked me to read it to him (his favorite part was the dog trying to peer in through Granny's window), I imagine the imagery could be used as a gateway into a discussion about the consequences of not exercising an appropriate amount of caution. Be safe and be smart out there!
