Damn, this was good, and unlike anything I've ever read. Dealt with almost every social issue possible, and also with the questions of what it means to be human as well as questions of free will. Also just a really well written SFI-fi story. Have read "Kindred" and can't wait to read more.

A classic author for a reason, blown away by Octavia E. Butler’s writing and her impact on sci fi.
This series is NOT an easy read but I will be thinking about it for a long time.
Dawn (1st book) was probably one of the freakiest things I’ve read and could definitely just be read as a stand-alone. But the 2nd and 3rd expanded on the world and what it means to be human in such an open ended and thought provoking way. I think the series is the strongest with all of them together, since it explores human nature and societal constructs vs the alien shock of the first book
That being said after all that I need to read something fluffy and nice HAHA

Haunting to revisit: challenged me to think about kinship unlike any other work I've read. Butler has a particular skill in making us feel the very alienness of our selves. How humans can seem far less familiar than species we may never meet or know.
