how do i even write a review for this book? "the kiss" proves that there's no story too taboo to write about, nothing that could happen to you that's too awful for the page to take it. this is a story so horrible that you wish it could slide off the page like oil, but each word is stuck in place with such precision that makes that impossible. the craft and the skill evident here are amazing. like, i'm so in awe of this woman's talent. and i'm also in awe of her bravery, which feels infantilizing to say, but i'm so serious. she took this story that most ppl would say cannot be told and tells it with incredible talent. the writing is economical yet beautiful. as troubling as the subject matter is, i'll probably be rereading this one.

The subject matter is disturbing, yes. That's not what put me off of this book though. The author just came across as whiny, annoying and way too dramatic. I don't care for her writing at all.
