It was a slow start very dragging up until chapter 10ish, then the plot actually begins, I found that the characters I hated with a passion became my favorite at the halfway point of the book. It has its issues (being problematic and such) but the story is incredibly captivating

Possibly my favorite book in the series. Does a great interpersonal exploration of depression and physical limitations for a fantasy series.
Great plot development as well.

First let me start with, some people think that you can skip this book. YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT SKIP THIS BOOK. Things that happen in this, are vital to the final book and you will be lost if you dont read it.
Now that thats taken care of… this is my second read through and both times i did the tandem read with Empire of Storm (i believe the superior way to read these two). I think I actually liked this one more on the second read through because I felt more forgiving towards Chaol’s character. I absolutely love the southern continent and could’ve read a whole series on that world. This book also made me the most emotional so far in my reread of the series. I found myself tearing up in a bunch of different places in this book.
