I was just whelmed by this book, the story of what happens when a wise-beyond-her-years 17-year-old has an affair with her 29-year-old calculus teacher. The plot wasn't surprising: every thing you expected to happen did happen, and even the psychological exploration of why (on either side). Sadly the characters were also unsurprising, all of them hitting the right notes at the right times, moving through shock, anger, denial, bargaining, love, hate, etc. with relative ease. Which is too bad, because had the author been more daring this could have been a really great book.

Amazing book, really made me think. See thefaultinourpickle.wordpress.com for my full review.
Sometimes I found it a little hard to follow, like you would be reading and it seemed to be going day to day then all the sudden it was several weeks later. This made it hard to understand the connection between Morgan and Mr Hill because we didn't see much of their interaction before they started sleeping together.
I want to give this 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book, and it was a quick read- I definitely did not want to put it down and stayed up way past my bedtime to read. My complaint is that most of the characters felt a little one-dimensional and sometimes the dialogue felt stifled and cliche. Honestly, it really didn't take away from the story for me, so I read on - and I hate to take away stars for that, because it might even be a 4 star book, but it is what it is. Either way, it's a great story and very readable. Check it out!
It was good that the author took on multiple perspectives on this book about a teacher having an affair with his student. It all felt so ... plausible. A lonely teenage girl who is on the outs with her friends and her too-busy parents gets sucked into this.
A teenage girl and a high school teacher start sleeping together. It comes out and the teacher is put on trial. We follow the viewpoints on the girl, her mother and the teacher's wife.
I had so much rage at the treatment of the teenage girl who was involved in the affair with her teacher. Yes she was stupid and shouldn't have even gotten involved in what she did, but it was clear once she was in the situation that she was completely out of her league and confused about what was really going on.
He's the adult and in the position of authority here. How about taking some responsibility for his actions instead of lying and sneaking around all the time. When the whole thing comes out he is treated as the victim and she is treated as the evil slut. Screw him and his poor "ruined reputation". Even if she did throw herself at him, she's a teenager. He's a married adult; he should have said no.

This book is so morally questionable it hurts. But the characters are written so well, it's worth it.
Interesting book -- reminded me of Jodi Picoult a bit, since it had a courtroom component. However, this did not appear until about halfway through the novel. The characters in this book almost all seem to have some sort of great character flaw that explains everything they do, which I both liked and didn't like. It was nice to feel I understood the characters, but it was a bit weird no one understood themselves enough to realize their One Great Flaw. The split narration and time jumps worked well for the story.
Even had me fooled. A good read, and beautiful the way the three women’s stories intertwine.
