I'm not sure why this novel doesn't have a better overall rating on Goodreads and Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It combines archeology, myths, oral histories, mystery, vampirism and romance in a well written novel with a decent plot. It has a slightly different take on the cause of vampirism and the strengths of vampires, but this isn't the main part of the plot. However mystery, suspense, revenge and romance are. The main characters were strong and likeable with a decent supporting array of characters, both good and bad. While this type of novel is not to everyone's tastes, I will definitely be looking forward to reading more of Catherine Mulvany's books.
