An anthology of horror/thriller comics by Emily Carroll.  I recognized her style and picked up the book.  It was a very good purchase.  It's an unsettling collection of horror comics.  All the stories are very atmospheric and the horror isn't gore and blood, but rather the creeping unease of realizing that you don't know what will save you.  (Maybe you can't be saved?) It's beautifully paced and immersive and a really good read.
I would say teen and up because these are the sort of stories that burrow in and linger.

This spooky collection of short comics delivers both exquisite beauty and gruesome horror! Though I am not usually a fan of the horror genre, Carroll’s fairytale-like stories were camp and stylised, so that I could recognise the beauty in the macabre without getting too scared. Emphasis on the beauty: the illustrations were SO DAMN GORGEOUS. Despite Carroll’s world being full of wolves and monsters, I wanted jump into every illustration and live there. The stories themselves were gripping and haunting, and her use of panelling and page layout achieved a jump-scare effect I didn’t think would be possible in a book. I have nothing left to say except BRILLIANT.

I love graphic novels, but I do not love horror, so this was a mixed bag for me. I loved the variation in artistic style, but several of the stories felt too short: just when they had been set up and were going somewhere, they ended.

There’s also so much body horror. “The Nesting Place” was particularly terrifying. I will be sleeping with the light on tonight.

The art is amazing and stylish, the stories are very spooky and gothic, awesome read for Halloween. I will definitely be rereading this graphic novel.
